How to plan a month of social media content in one afternoon

Content pillars, a simple calendar and batching – the exact process our social team uses to stay consistent without burning out.

How to plan a month of social media content in one afternoon

Posting consistently is the single biggest thing most brands get wrong on social media. Not because they lack ideas, but because they plan day by day. Here is the simple process our social media team uses to plan a full month of content in a single focused afternoon.

Step 1: Define 3–5 content pillars

Content pillars are the recurring themes your brand talks about. They keep your feed varied but focused. For example, a café might use:

  • Product: menu highlights, new launches, behind-the-counter moments.
  • People: the team, regular customers, supplier stories.
  • Education: coffee tips, brewing guides, ingredient facts.
  • Community: events, collaborations, local love.
  • Offers: promotions and seasonal specials – used sparingly.

Step 2: Mark the key dates

Open a calendar and note festivals, holidays, industry days, product launches and events relevant to your audience. These become anchors for your month.

Step 3: Choose a realistic rhythm

Three strong posts a week beats seven rushed ones. Decide your mix – for example two carousels, one reel and daily stories – and stick to it.

Step 4: Fill the calendar

Rotate through your pillars so no theme dominates. For each slot, write a one-line idea, the format (post, carousel, reel) and the goal (awareness, engagement or sales).

Step 5: Batch the creation

Write all captions in one sitting, then design all creatives in another, then shoot all video in a third. Batching keeps you in the same mindset and is dramatically faster than switching between tasks every day.

Step 6: Schedule and leave room for “live” content

Schedule your planned posts using a scheduling tool, but keep around 20% of your calendar flexible for trends, timely news and spontaneous moments.

Step 7: Review what worked

At the end of the month, look at saves, shares, comments and reach – not just likes. Double down on the pillars and formats that performed, and adjust the rest for next month.

Consistency is not about posting every day. It is about showing up with purpose, on a rhythm your audience can rely on.
